I was a military investigator. At that time Kremlin did not want the U.S. presence in the Afghanistan. That was the main political task of the Soviet army as far as I know. The rest did not matter. When the USSR began to crumble, the Soviet army withdrew from the country. Then has been not to the political objectives. Internal problems outweighed. I have a little information about Nato military activity in that country and do not know what the goal of the Nato is now. Any army is difficult to fight against the tribe, not the state. In Afghanistan in the 20st Century many people believed that the Sun revolves around the Earth. Tactics? There have a lot of time to drag people from the Middle Ages to 21st Century.
